Hoisin Peanut Sauce | Tuong Cham Goi Cuon
Hoisin peanut sauce is a rich, flavorful dipping sauce often paired with fresh summer rolls, but also used with many other rice paper rolls. Its base is hoisin sauce, mixed in with almond butter or peanut butter and enhanced with crushed peanuts for texture and nuttiness. This could easily be made vegan by using vegetable broth instead of chicken broth.
Ingredients
- avocado oil, or any neutral oil
- 1 Tbsp shallots, minced
- 6 garlic cloves, minced
- 15 oz hoisin sauce, preferably Koon Chun brand
- 5 oz peanut butter or almond butter , I prefer to use almond butter
- 2 Tbsp white vinegar
- ¼ cup coconut milk
- 2 ½ cups low sodium chicken broth or vegetable broth
- 1 Tbsp mushroom seasoning
Instructions
- In a saucepan, heat oil over medium heat and add shallots and garlic. Fry just until it starts turning a light brown color, then add the rest of the ingredients.
- Lower heat and stir/whisk constantly until all the ingredients are evenly mixed in.
