Confession time: I’m not a fan of ham. Whenever someone asks about my food preferences, ham is always on my “please don’t serve” list. But there’s one exception—this ham recipe, which has completely won me over! It’s called Awesome Baked Ham, and with just three simple ingredients, it lives up to its name. I first found it on Food.com, and it’s now a must-have for Thanksgiving and Christmas at our table. Even my son requests it every holiday season!
Why This Ham is So Good
The secret lies in the mustard-sugar paste that coats every crevice of the ham. The whole mixture melts down beautifully, giving the ham a sweet, tangy glaze that’s absolutely irresistible. Be sure to slather the paste in between each slice for maximum flavor.
Cooking Tips
Here are my foolproof steps for a perfect ham:
- Use a Fully Cooked Ham: Most hams sold in stores are already cured, smoked, or baked. This recipe is all about heating and glazing to perfection.
- Cook Time: I follow the golden rule of 20 minutes per pound, ensuring the ham is fully heated and flavors soak in.
- Cover with Foil: Wrap the ham tightly in foil and don’t open it until cooking is complete. This locks in moisture, so each slice is tender and juicy.
After it’s done, I like to drizzle the reduced pan juices over the ham for a glossy finish and extra flavor. Trust me, even if you’re a ham skeptic like me, this recipe will make you a believer!
3 Ingredients Baked Ham
Ingredients
- ½ cup yellow mustard
- 1 lb brown sugar
- 15 lbs whole bone-in ham
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- In a bowl, mix yellow mustard and brown sugar until you have a thick paste.
- Line baking pan with aluminum foil.
- Place ham on foil and spread brown sugar/mustard paste on top and in all the crevices of the ham.
- Fold and seal foil to completely cover the ham. Do not open again until ham is done.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes per pound.
- Once done cooking, remove the foil and transfer the drippings from the roasting pan to a saucepan, making sure to strain with a sieve.
- On medium heat, reduce the drippings by cooking it for 15 minutes.
- Baste the sauce over the ham and in between the slices or set it aside in a gravy boat as a dipping sauce.
